DescriptionOregano is native to northern Europe but now grows all over the world. It is derived form the Greek words oros, meaning mountain, and ganos, meaning joy. This is because In Greek culture it was a symbol of happiness and it is known to make the hillsides on which is grows beautiful. Oregano grows up to 20 inches and contains purple flowers with olive-green leaves. These leaves are oval with a peppery flavor. Dried oregano is preferred over fresh oregano as it has superior taste. Oregano can be grown in many environments, but is most successful in “hot, relatively dry” environments.

Kitchen PharmacyOregano contains carvacrol. Carvarcrol is an antioxidant, which is antibacterial, is an anti-inflammatory, and helps prevent and slow cancer. Oregano has no cholesterol, helps digestion, is antibacterial and antifungal. Oregano also has fiber, potassium, carotenes, calcium, manganese, magnesium, iron, vitamin A, and vitamin C.
